These enameled flowers are clustered naturalistically across the hat's opening, which is pinched closed bya curling ribbon handle. This miniature is especially realistic, thanks to the finely-executedtexture of the woven hat, and its "pinched" form! It conjures the romantic image of a young woman, out on a walk in the country,who removes her hat to fill it with field flowers, and that carefree sceneperfectlyembodiesthe era's Gibson Girl and "new woman." This is a rarity. It hangs from a large jump ring.
